Veuve is the French word for “widow.” Madame Clicquot, née Ponsardin, was a French business woman. She became a widow at age 27 and took over her late husband’s wine business. She became known at the “Grand Dame of Champagne,” hence the name Veuve Clicquot. The Perfect Match Champagne Gift Basket is a creative and unique gift basket for weddings, housewarmings, engagements, or closing a business deal. #1 Veuve Clicquot Gifts.

Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut Champagne speaks for itself. This pale-yellow champagne has flavors of fresh apples and peaches with hints of vanilla. The scent of fresh bread dough and pecans make it an exceptional pair with poached prawns or during an elegant brunch. The complexity of this champagne prompted us to keep this basket clean and simple: A silver serving platter with two champagne flutes. This is a perfect ‘His & Hers’ basket because of the two bottles in comparison to one. You will receive one 750ml bottle of Veuve Clicquot along with one 375ml bottle as well.

Founded in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot-Muiron, the Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin French Champagne House specialized in producing premium products. This champagne house plated a significant role in constituting champagne as a notable drink throughout Europe. Veuve Clicquot is believed to have been the first modern champagne because of the method of which it is produced.

The Champagne House was family owned until 1963 where it was taken puplic and merged with Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessey in 1986. Appointed cellar master in 1985, Jaques Peters is the chief winemaker and has conducted an enterprising program since then to promote the grape sources, upgrade the vineyards, and ameliorate the production area and cellars.

Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Brut La Grande Dame received 94 points from Wine Spectator as a Prestige Cuvee. It pays homage to Madame Clicquot herself, a great lady in the Champagne world. La Grande Dame is a blend of eight of the house’s traditional Grand Crus. Up to 65% of Pinot Noir grapes give the champagne strength and structure and its freshness is from 35-40% Chardonnay grapes. The fruits are harvested from the best plots in the Montagne de Reims, Grand Callee de la Marne, and Cote des Blancs regions of France. This bright bubbly has a smoke-tinged, almost mineraly, flavor with hints of almonds, poached pears, candied kumquats, and creme de cassis. It also happens to have a vibrant acidity with a refined texture comparable to creamy mousse. Unlike the other Veuve Clicquots that should be enjoyed right away, La Grande Dame Brut does better with age and can be enjoyed all the way to 2030!

Veuve Clicquot is a champagne house located in the Reims section of France that specializes in premium bubbly. It was originally founded in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot-Muiron who had a son named François Clicquot. The house  of Veuve Clicquot was soon established. They opened the door for Champagnes to become a house hold drink. Veuve is best known for being the first house to create a rose Champagne in 1775 by adding red wine during production. The first truly modern Champagne is considered to be the 1811 comet vintage of Veuve Clicquot. They used advanced methods  to create the champagne through the technique of remuage – the process of adding carbonation. Philippe’s son took over the house with his wife Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin, who he married in 1798.

François passed away shortly in 1805, leaving his widow in control of the company. Veuve is the French word for widow: hence Veuve Clicquot. She was the first woman in control of a Champagne house: banking, wool trading, and production. Madame Clicquot guided the firm to focus on one trade to bring them great success. Clicquot established her product in royal courts throughout Europe during the Napoleonic Wars and, in 1811, became the first Champagne house to ship through the blockade to Russia. Champagne was also given to the Prussian guards and soldiers who opened them with their swords. The technique of sabering of Champagne was started. When the Madame passed away in 1866, Veuve Clicquot had become a respected brand, easily recognized by its bright yellow labels, and a significant Champagne house. Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy Group added Veuve Clicquot to its luxury brands.

Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Brut La Grande Dame Rose is created using only fruits harvested from the eight Grand Cru vineyards Madame Clicquot had purchased during her time in the house. These fruits are woven with Pinot Noir from Bouzy, a favorite vineyard of the Madame’s. La Grande Dame Rose is a vivid orangish-pink color with seductive scents of ripe red berries, roses, Asian spices, and smokey minerals. Huge, lingering bursts of vibrant dark and red berries float around the palate with notes of floral pastille and buttered toast. A strikingly long finish carries on the red fruit flavors along with minerals that your taste buds just can not ignore.

Identical to its brother, Brut Yellow Label, Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Brut Rose also received 90 points from Wine Enthusiast and Wine Spectator. The base of this Champagne is identical as well with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier grapes. The ratio DOES change because there is an addition of 12% red wine from the Montagne de Reims vineyard. This luminous bubbly has an enchanting light pink coloring that almost shimmers in your glass. Initial aromas of fresh red fruits lead into brioche notes on the elegant nose because leading into a fresh & creamy texture that offers a light smoky tone. The tone is then interlaced with flavors of strawberry tart, grated coconut, ground spice, and pastry cream (YUM!) There  is a fine balance of fruitiness and acidity in Veuve Clicquot Rose that can be found lingering around when finished. Veuve Clicquot is a champagne house baded in the Reims section of France that specializes in premium bubbly.
