Current Vintage: Cool beginnings brought a wet spring that pushed budbreak back by some weeks. Many opened grapevine canopies early on to allow more sunlight and promote growth. A very hot summer accelerated the season and pushed ripening back on track. The weather was ideal during harvest, with warm days and cool evenings producing ripe wines with bright acidities with more nuances than in past vintages.
Type: Rosé of Sangiovese & Syrah
The Underground Wine Project is a collaboration between Washington wine makers Mark McNeilly (Mark Ryan Winery) and Trey Busch (Sleight of Hand Cellars). Mark and Trey are close friends of nearly 14 years and have both have launched successful wineries in their respective parts of Washington State. In 2009, the pair released their first collaboration wine, Idle Hands. With only 100 cases produced, Idle Hands quickly became a cult favorite; the successful launch was the impetus for what would soon become the Underground Wine Project.
