CARNOVSKY, which consists of Francesco Rugi and Silvia Quintanilla, first founded their studio in 2006 and grabbed the world’s attention with the “RGB Project.” They combined 17th century illustrations with a digital technique using the technology world’s primary colors: red, green, and blue. The unique vision comes to life on the box itself and the label of the Hennessy VSOP. Leaflets are included in the limited edition gift set along with colored filters to enhance the illustrations this duo created for the bottle. Customers are invited to invent their own RGB symbols on craftmysymbol.com to express their personal identity.
Hennessy was founded in 1765 by Richard Hennessy in Cognac, France. Throughout the years, he thrived by exporting brandies back to his native Ireland and England. Twenty years later, Richard hired Jean Fillioux as the first Master Blender. Since then, the families have been extremely close. 8 generations of these families have continued to run and oversee the aging and blending of Hennessy products. Today, Yann Fillioux holds the reigns as the Master Blender and also crafted Hennessy Paradis – a cognac of 100 eaux-de-vie. Hennessy became a prestige company when the Prince of Wales (who was a cognac connoisseur) and the feature King George IV of Great Britain ordered “very superior old pale” from the house. V.S.O.P has since become a benchmark for the cognac community. It wasn’t until 1856 that the brand received its permanent symbol: the coat-of-arms. The Bras Armé is an arm and axe that pay homage to the founder’s military service. His service earned him French citizenship and land in Cognac.
In 1859, Hennessy made its first delivery. The cognac first made its Far East debut in China and quickly became a foreign ambassador for French Culture. To this day, the Henny is still an icon in Chinese culture and used to celebrate during family celebrations and at high-end restaurants. The most popular cognac in the world was established in 1865 as Hennessy V.S. Maurice Hennessy, Richard’s great-grandson, created a star classification system to distinguish cognac’s qualities. The brand finally reaches the United States in 1972 and quickly gained popularity. In 2011, Yann Fillioux created the Paradis Impérial after he was inspired by a legend of a rare blend of 1818 Cognac. This blend was reportedly created for Czar Alexander I of Russia. Yann and designer Stéphanie Balini created the faceted shape for the ornate crystal decanter. Like Hennessy Gifts? Order now!
Hennessy describes this collaboration as “a shared passion: to blend the unexpected” while hand crafted with artistry. Their most recent collab is with Scott Campbell, an American tattoo artist known throughout the world as one of the most talented artists of this time. Shepard Fairey, Ryan McGinness, and Futura all worked with Hennessy V.S to create a limited edition bottle design as well. Limited release bottles can go upwards of three hundred dollars online, even without the cognac inside of them. Collectors of spirits and arts will love the Hennessy VS Scott Campbell Limited Edition bottle!
Scott Campbell is not only known for his stunning works of art on skin canvas but in other mediums as well. He has carved sculptures from US currency and produced graphite (pencil) works of art on the inside of eggshells! Campbell also put his spin onto Disney’s Princesses and female characters for a pin-up style inspired calendar in 2012.
Known as the world’s most popular Cognac, Hennessy Very Special has an intense and fruity scent with a slight smell of oak. It can be enjoyed neat or on the rocks because of its powerful flavors of grilled almonds, fresh grapes, apples, and citrus fruits. The exquisite golden color is a simple reminder of the vanilla palate left after the first sip. Today’s Hennessy VS, also known as “Henny” for short, is the modern-day example of the original classic – Hennessy Three Star. The full-bodied and powerful flavor is also warm-hearted and proves the expertise and consistency of cognac centuries in the making.
An entire collection of seductive prints can be found by a simple google search. Scott has been featured in several art galleries and his work has since reached some of the world’s most revered collections and museums. Who would have though the love of art could reach so many unique canvases?
The current limited edition bottle is a perfect representation of Hennessy’s two-hundred-and-fifty plus years of dedication to perfect the perfect cognac – in both craft & culture. Scott Campbell’s master artistry skill blends unorthodox forms and mediums with personal creativity for an embellished hand-drawn line work. Hennessy VS and Campbell are literally taking exceptional handcrafted devotion to their products and bringing them together for the ultimate art piece.
