The origin of gin and its creator have been debated for hundreds of years. The debate starts back in 1585 where English soldiers were believed to be using fermented juniper berries for their calming effect on the body before battle. Franciscus Sylvius, a Dutch physician, is the most well-known “creator” of gin in the mid-17th century. It has since come to realization that there is a written reference to genever (an old English word derived from juniperus, the Latin word for juniper of which gin is created) in the 13th century encyclopaedic Der Naturen Bloeme. If Sir Sylvius were to have created gin, he would have been about 9 years old in 1623 when Philip Massinger’s play The Duke of Milan first referenced gin. Best Hendricks Gift Basket.

No one actually knows where the word cocktail came from or who created the word. What we do know is that 99.9% of them are delicious! A cocktail is a mixed drink that contains a spirits/liquor of some sort, a mixer like juice or vermouth, and proceed as a highball (the contents of the mixer is higher than the alcohol.) Majority of the International Bartenders Association Official cocktails are considered highballs.  The Great Gintini Gin Gift Basket is a wonderful house warming gift!

You don’t need to be a mixologist to create the perfect cocktail. We’re going to help you out on this one! Introducing.. The Great Gintini! Sent to you on a silver platter, we’ve included all the base ingredients for a gin martini. Some martinis can be made with vodka and others with gin. A bottle of Bombay Sapphire Dry Gin arrives with a bottle of dry vermouth and various garnishes like olives, cherries, and cocktail onions. To help with the mixing process we’ve also included the necessary tools: a shaker, bar spoon, strainer, and jigger You’ll be serving them up in no time! Bombay Sapphire is surely unique compared to other gins. Normally, the botanicals are boiled right in the spirit while Bombay has created a Vapour Infusion process. 10 treasured botanicals like grains of paradise, coriander, cubeb berries, and almonds are set aside from the spirit in copper baskets and heated until the vapors are achieved and flavors are released. The end result is an aromatic fluid with high flavor content. Vermouth is similar to a wine dating back to the mid-late 18th century Italy. Originally for medicinal purposes, the fortified wine grew its claim to fame as an aperitif. In the late 19th century it became a cocktail staple, being served in drinks like Negroni, Manhattans, and martinis. To create your own martini, place a cocktail glass in a freezer for about 10 minutes. In a shaker, add 1 part gin to 2 parts vermouth and fill half way with ice. Stir energetically for about 20 seconds until chilled and strain into glass. You can garnish with provided ingredients like an olive or an orange twist if you have one handy!

Hendrick’s is an iconoclastic super premium gin, produced in small batches and distilled in Ayrshire, Scotland. The unusual distillation process, coupled with an oddly delicious set of infusions – comprising rose petals and cucumber – yields an one-of-a-kind gin. This unusual gin, so complexly tasty and so delightfully unusual, is contained in an equally unique apothecary bottle – like those used by pharmacists in the past in order to protect the delicate healing powers of the liquid held within. Small batch typically means 1,000 litres or fewer. The gin distills in miniscule batches of 500 litres, which gives our master distiller even greater control of her careful artistry. Hendrick’s wondrous botanical signature consists of flowers, roots, fruits, and seeds from the world over. They function to complement and set the stage for our delicious duet of infusions: rose petal and cucumber. Hendrick’s is the marriage of two different spirits from two rare and unusual stills: the Bennet still and the Carter-Head still. By combining the two, we are able to create an extraordinarily smooth gin that has the required character and balance of subtle flavours.

Looking for a gift to impress even the classiest of gin drinkers? Send your recipients a bottle of proper Boodles London Dry Gin. Boodles Gin is catered towards and branded for distinguished gentleman and gentlewomen. It’s a clean gin with a piney juniper palate. Herbal notes of sage and nutmeg make this gin a wonderful addition to a home bar. What sets Boodles London Dry Gin apart from modern gins is that citrus botanicals are not used in distillation, although it is recommended to garnish Boodles cocktails with a lime or lemon slice to complement. Boodles says its gin is “refined as a silver service tray, suitable for any proper drink…”. Whip up a Gin & Tonic, Tom Collins or use Boodles in a dry Martini. The Boodles Salted Negroni is spectacular cocktail as well: Shake 1.5 oz. Boodles London Dry Gin, 3/4 oz. Sweet Vermouth, 3/4 oz. Campari and 1 oz. grapefruit juice with a pinch of sea salt in a shaker with ice. Quickly pour into a Collins glass over ice and top with 2 oz. soda water. Garnish with a grapefruit peel and another pinch of sea salt. Boodles London Dry Gin is distilled using British wheat and is then redistilled in a Carter Head copper still, to infuse the botanicals steadily into the spirit. Boodles uses a vacuum still that operates under extreme pressure, resulting in slower evaporation of the alcohol and a stronger focus on the botanical flavors. A variety of nine herbs and botanicals are infused, including juniper, rosemary, sage, coriander, caraway, nutmeg, among others. These botanicals give the gin a mellow, well-rounded juniper-forward palate. According to the brand, creating this elegant gin takes “labor and patience”.
