Introduced to the American market in 1988, Gentleman Jack has been a hit since it hit the shelves. The upscale whiskey, compared to its brother Jack Daniel’s Original Whiskey, is filtered two times through charcoal. The normal Jack Daniel’s is filtered once. Because of the double filtration, Gentleman Jack is to be enjoyed neat (no ice, no chaser, straight spirits!) Whiskey Fun Fact: On September 30th, when the whiskey’s unveiling took place, the 1,000 invited guests could not actually taste or drink the new product! Lynchburg, Tennessee is a dry county – which means no alcohol can be served there. Interesting isn’t it?. Like Gentleman Jack Gifts? Order now!

Old Fashion Cocktails are now the new fashion! Whiskies and bourbons have come a long way since they were first created. Old Fashion drinks were first noted in the May 13, 1806 issue of The Balance and Columbian Repository as a “potent concoction of spirits, bitters, water, and sugar.” It was previously known as a bittered sling. Hudson, NY is where the newsletter originated from, so you can essentially say this is where the cocktail was created. It wasn’t until 1833 when J.E. Alexander describes a very similar cocktail he discovered, again in New York, with bitters, water, sugar, and either rum, gin, or brandy. It’s time to bring the Old Fashion into New Fashion with our Hella Gentleman Whiskey Gift Basket!

What better way to serve an Old Fashion than on a stunning silver tray?! There isn’t – so that’s exactly what we did. Our silver tray carries a bottle of Jack Daniel’s Gentleman Jack Whiskey along with crackers, cheese spread, and nuts for snacking. We are serious about keeping this old fashioned. But we didn’t stop there. We also included two fancy glasses for your convenience and a bar set of bitters from the Hella Bitters Company, who also happened to be based in New York!

A bar set of bitters usually includes 5 flavors in 1.7 ounce bottles. Hella Bitters bar set has five flavors included: smoked chili, citrus, aromatic, orange, and ginger.  Bitters are usually used to as an additive, flavored by botanicals, to add a sour or bittersweet flavor to alcohols; as the Hella Bitters Co. states: “They’re like salt and pepper for your drinks!”

Master Distiller Jeff Arnett says Gentleman Jack Whiskey is exceptionally smooth and double-mellowed. He is currently the 7th Master Distiller for Jack Daniel’s. It all began in 1864 when Jasper Newton Daniel, or more commonly known as Jack, introduced the world to his signature charcoal-mellowed Tennessee Whiskey: Old No. 7. Who would have ever guessed centuries later we would have a Gentleman Jack Whiskey Gift Set?

Gentleman Jack was inspired by Jack’s Old No. 7 Whiskey. The original whiskey undergoes a second charcoal mellowing which gives it an exceptional smoothness, just like the original Gentleman himself. Balanced flavors of oak, vanilla, and caramel take over this extraordinary whiskey – making it an exceptional drink to celebrate all of life’s special occasions!

To create an Old Fashion Cocktail, add sugar to your liking into an “old fashioned” glass (usually one with a flat, firm base) then add the bitters of your choice. We recommend tasting the bitters first so you know how much of which flavor you would like to add. Also in the glass, add a splash of water or club soda. Add ice and Jack Daniel’s Gentleman Jack into the glass and stir until minimal sugar is left. Take an orange or lemon twist and rim around the top of the glass, drop the rind into the cocktail and enjoy!

The whiskey won a gold medal in 1904 at the World’s Fair in St. Louis, Missouri. This was the first of seven gold medals Old No. 7 would carry on to win. Unfortunately, Jack Daniel did not love on to see many more medals. In 1906 Jack was unable to open his safe after arriving to work early and kicks it out of frustration. He breaks his toe which was the ultimate demise of his life. Being unwed and not bearing any children, in 1907 Jack left his land and distillery to nephew Lem Motlow.
