Johnnie Walker Green Label Scotch Whiskey
Johnnie Walker Green Label Scotch Whiskey is a vatted malt (or should we say blended malt) from Johnnie Walker, Jim Murray awarded this 15 year old a whopping 95 points in his 2010 Whisky Bible! The nose is quite rich and full. There are notes of mocchaccino and espresso coffee, wood smoke and a fireplace, a touch of bitter chocolate and oak. The palate is of medium-body with notes of crisp cereals, coffee beans and chocolate, a date note with a touch of walnut. The finish is quite long and spicy with honeyed sweetness and oak.
It all began in 1819 when Johnnie Walker used his inheritance from his father’s passing to purchase a grocer’s shop in Kilmarnock. Here he started blending his grocer’s stock of single malts because he wanted to introduce (and enjoy) a consistent flavor profile. Naturally, Johnnie had a talent for blending, and his blends became a hit with his customers. Johnnie knew to “Keep Walking” despite the loss of his father and the world is grateful for it. Johnnie’s son and grandsons continued to grow the brand and whiskies to introduce the labels that we know and love today.
Johnnie Walker Scotches are held in high esteem and continue to hold a Royal Warrant, which was granted on New Year’s Day 1934 by King George V to supply whisky to the royal household. The Special Edition King George V scotch commemorates the wonderful honor of holding the Royal Warrant.
